According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 3:50 a.m. on September 15 near Wickham Road in the city of Melbourne. A 34-year-old woman from Cocoa was driving a 2020 Toyota Corolla southbound in the northbound lanes when she collided head-on with a 2014 Chevrolet Impala.

The crash claimed the lives of the wrong-way driver and both occupants of the Impala: a 34-year-old man from Holly Hill and a 46-year-old woman. FHP confirmed that none of the three were wearing seatbelts.

The violent impact triggered a chain-reaction crash involving six other vehicles. Six additional individuals were injured and transported to local hospitals, including one person in serious condition. The northbound lanes of I-95 were closed between Exit 188 and Exit 191 until approximately 1:15 p.m.
