Fergus County, MT (May 15, 2025) – A fatal crash Monday evening claimed the life of a 67-year-old woman from Malta along a rural stretch of Highway 19 in Fergus County.
According to reports, the crash occurred just after 6 p.m. on May 12 between Grass Range and Bohemian Corner, near mile marker 56. Montana Highway Patrol officials say the woman, the sole occupant of a Chrysler, was heading southbound when the vehicle veered slightly off the road and struck the end of a guardrail directly in line with the passenger-side headlight.
The vehicle then rotated 90 degrees to the right and continued sliding broadside along the guardrail before coming to rest. Despite wearing a seatbelt, the woman died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash.
Authorities indicated that both speed and alcohol are considered contributing factors. The identity of the victim has not yet been released pending family notification.
