Salt Lake City, UT (September 26, 2024) – Five people were tragically killed in a multi-vehicle accident southeast of Salt Lake City on Thursday. According to the Utah Highway Patrol, the crash occurred when an SUV overshot the designated acceleration lane and entered a lane occupied by a semi-truck.
The truck driver attempted to avoid the SUV, but lost control, causing the semi to veer into westbound traffic. The semi then struck another SUV carrying four Minnesotans, leading to the fatal collision. Additionally, a man riding an ATV on the westbound shoulder was also struck and killed by the semi-truck.
The victims from Minnesota have been identified as 56-year-old Sang Her and 38-year-old Lee Thao, both from Brooklyn Center, as well as 26-year-old Bee Moua and 25-year-old Mai Lor, both from St. Paul. The ATV rider was identified as 35-year-old Gustavo Mendoza from Helper, Utah.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
