Escambia County, FL (August 20, 2025) – A Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) trooper was hospitalized early Sunday after a crash involving a black SUV and a patrol vehicle in Escambia County.
According to reports, the accident happened around 6:20 a.m. on August 17 along U.S. Highway 29 just south of West Roberts Road. The trooper was on scene investigating a separate collision when a black SUV traveling in the left lane failed to move over. The SUV then struck the rear of the FHP vehicle.
Both the trooper and the SUV driver were transported to a local hospital. Authorities later identified the driver as Deondrez Dequan White, who was arrested and charged with driving while license suspended as a habitual offender. He has since been booked into the Escambia County Jail.
