GILBERT, AZ (January 7, 2025) – Authorities have identified 20-year-old Caleb O’Neal Scott of Phoenix as the victim of a fatal crash Friday night on Loop 202 near Gilbert Road.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) reported that the incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. when a 19-year-old driver from Surprise lost control of a white Infiniti passenger car. The vehicle struck a barrier wall, prompting two passengers to exit the car and stand on the roadway.

A silver Ford SUV struck both passengers, causing the Infiniti to burst into flames. Caleb O’Neal Scott died at the scene, while the second passenger was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the Infiniti suffered minor injuries and is suspected of impairment. Authorities indicated that charges against the driver are pending. The driver of the Ford SUV is not facing charges. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
