Newkirk, OK (July 8, 2025) — A devastating head-on collision just north of Newkirk on Gate Road left one woman dead and five others injured, including two children, Monday afternoon.
According to reports, Newkirk Fire Chief Adam Longcrier confirmed that emergency responders were dispatched to the scene around 4:30 p.m. on July 7. The crash involved two vehicles that collided head-on after one vehicle, traveling southbound, attempted to pass another vehicle and struck an oncoming car.
Victims ranged in age from a nine-month-old infant to adults in their mid-40s. A five-month-old infant was airlifted to St. Francis in Tulsa in critical condition but was reported stable, having suffered minor bruises and abrasions. Another child and an adult female were also airlifted to Tulsa hospitals in critical condition. A second adult female was transported to Wesley Medical Trauma Center in Wichita, Kansas, while a minor was taken to Integris Ponca City in stable condition. Sadly, an adult female victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Multiple agencies, including Newkirk Fire, River Road and Kildare Fire, Kay County Sheriff’s Office, Newkirk Police, Arkansas City Fire, Ponca City ambulance, and several Air Evac teams responded to assist. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is investigating the collision and the roadway will remain closed for an indefinite time as authorities await the medical examiner.
