According to Texas state troopers, the incident occurred around 8:40 p.m. in the 600 block of Farm-to-Market Road 2152 when a vehicle struck a bicyclist traveling northbound.
According to reports, the impact threw the victim off the bike and into a nearby ditch. The driver then fled the scene without stopping to provide help or call for assistance. The victim, whose identity has not yet been released, did not survive the crash.
Authorities have since arrested 52-year-old Fidel Mendoza-Rios in connection with the fatal hit-and-run. He has been charged with failure to stop and render aid resulting in death, a serious offense under Texas law.
