According to the Michigan State Police, the crash occurred around 2:45 p.m. on December 27. The victim had reportedly run out of gas while driving westbound on I-96 and was walking along the exit ramp shoulder in search of fuel when he was struck by an unidentified vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle fled the scene after the crash, leaving the man seriously injured. Authorities confirmed he was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
