Hopewell, NY (August 14, 2025) – A woman lost her life in a devastating house fire that broke out early Tuesday morning in Ontario County.

According to reports, emergency crews were dispatched around 2:35 a.m. on August 13 to a residence on Stoddard Road in Hopewell following a report of a structure fire. Upon arrival, first responders found the home fully engulfed in flames.

Authorities say 66-year-old Michael Wright managed to escape and ran to a neighbor’s home to call 911. Tragically, his wife, 70-year-old Deborah Wright, was unable to get out in time. She was later found deceased inside the residence.

Michael Wright sustained minor burns and was transported to F.F. Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua, where he was treated and released. Deborah’s body was taken to Geneva General Hospital for autopsy.

Investigators are continuing to look into the cause of the fire.
