Carmel, ME (June 2, 2025) — A serious single-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 in Carmel sent three individuals to the hospital Sunday afternoon.
According to reports, Maine State Police said the crash happened on June 1 near mile marker 171. Authorities reported that 61-year-old Raymond Deroche of Anson was driving southbound in the passing lane when the vehicle veered off the roadway into the median. The vehicle traveled down an embankment and struck several trees, sustaining extensive damage.
Deroche sustained minor injuries, while his passengers, 36-year-old Christopher Stephens and 34-year-old Brad Wheeler, both from Madison, suffered serious injuries. All three occupants were transported to Eastern Maine Medical Center for treatment. The crash temporarily reduced traffic to a single lane as crews worked at the scene. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
