Conner Kruse, 30, of Toutle, was driving a Toyota 4Runner eastbound on State Route 504 when he attempted to pass a Volvo S60 that had stopped to turn left into a private driveway.

As Kruse moved to pass on the left, his SUV collided with the turning Volvo. Both Kruse and his 18-year-old passenger from Silverlake sustained injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital. A 61-year-old passenger in the Volvo, a resident of Marysville, was also hurt. The 60-year-old Volvo driver was not injured.

Kruse was cited for improper passing. The collision remains under investigation.
