Erie Township, MI (June 28, 2025) – Six people were left in critical condition following a violent two-vehicle crash in Monroe County’s Erie Township Thursday afternoon, shortly after police called off a pursuit.
According to reports, the collision happened around 2:27 p.m. on June 26 at the intersection of M-125, also known as South Dixie Highway, and Luna Pier Road. Erie Township Police initially stopped a white 2013 Ford Focus near Suder Road and Dean Road for careless driving. As the officer approached the vehicle, the driver fled north on South Dixie Highway, prompting a brief pursuit that was quickly ended due to the suspect’s reckless behavior.
Minutes later, the white Ford Focus ran a red light at Luna Pier Road and struck a gray 2012 Ford Focus traveling westbound through the intersection. All four occupants of the fleeing vehicle and both people in the gray Ford were transported to hospitals in Toledo with critical injuries.
Multiple agencies, including the Bedford Township Fire Department, Erie Township Fire Department, Michigan State Police, and Monroe Community Ambulance, assisted at the scene. South Dixie Highway was closed in the area until about 6 p.m. as the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Services Division continued its investigation.
