Scottsdale, AZ (July 7, 2025) — Weekend travel on a busy East Valley freeway turned dangerous after a serious crash shut down part of Loop 101 for several hours Saturday afternoon.
According to reports, the Arizona Department of Public Safety responded to the southbound lanes of Loop 101 near Shea Boulevard just after 1 p.m. on July 5. Troopers say the crash happened when a vehicle became disabled on the freeway and was struck by another vehicle traveling southbound.
At least two people suffered serious injuries in the collision and were transported to area hospitals for further treatment. The impact of the crash forced authorities to close all southbound lanes of Loop 101 at Cactus Road and shut down the Cactus Road on-ramp for several hours while crews worked to clear the scene and investigate what happened. All lanes were reopened by around 6 p.m.
Officials continue to investigate the circumstances leading up to the crash and have not released additional information about the victims involved.
