According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the accident occurred around 10:15 a.m. on August 27, 2025, approximately 0.4 miles north of Hydraulic on I-135 near mile marker 2. Officials say a 2006 Kia Sorento driven by 66-year-old Louis A. Blais of Wichita was traveling too fast for the roadway conditions and collided with a 2008 Lexus LS, which was also northbound in an adjacent lane.

The impact caused complaint-of-pain injuries to the Lexus driver, 56-year-old Sondra R. Smith of Wichita. She was transported to Wesley Derby ER for further medical attention. Blais was evaluated at Ascension Via Christi St. Joseph but showed no apparent injuries. Both vehicles were towed by Bud Roat’s Towing. Blais reportedly did not have insurance at the time of the crash.
