Geary County KS (September 2, 2025) – A three-vehicle collision on Interstate 70 eastbound near Moritz Road sent multiple people to the hospital Monday afternoon as heavy rainfall contributed to dangerous road conditions.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 4:40 p.m. on September 1 near milepost 311. A 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by 24-year-old Riley N. Brungardt of Hoisington lost control on the wet roadway and struck a 2024 Buick Encore parked on the south shoulder.
The force of the impact pushed the Buick into a 2019 Ford Ranger, which was also parked on the shoulder. Brungardt’s Jeep came to rest in the south ditch, as did the Buick. The Ford remained on the shoulder.
Brungardt was transported to Stormont Vail Health – Flint Hills Campus with suspected minor injuries. The Buick’s driver, Tammy Bevan-Tyler, 63, of Overland Park, and her passenger, Mark D. Taylor, 60, of Olathe, also sustained minor injuries. The driver of the Ford, Jake A. Sobonilla, 24, of Fort Riley, was not hurt.
