Thomas County, KS (August 27, 2025) – Two individuals, including an infant, were hospitalized Tuesday night following a single-vehicle crash along US Highway 24 in Thomas County.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 9:44 p.m. on August 26, approximately 2.25 miles east of K25 Highway at mile marker 57.7. Authorities reported that a 1994 GMC Sierra was traveling eastbound when it veered off the roadway for unknown reasons.
The vehicle entered the north ditch, continued through a grassy area, and eventually came to rest against a fence inside a pasture. The driver, identified as 21-year-old Jesse Jacoby Coon of Oakley, Kansas, sustained suspected minor injuries and was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
A 10-month-old child, identified as Lucas Leo Craig Coon and also from Oakley, was properly restrained and sustained minor injuries as well. Both were transported to Citizens Medical Center for treatment. The vehicle was removed from the scene by S&M Repair. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
