Chicago, IL (September 12, 2025) – An early morning crime spree turned deadly Thursday when a vehicle fleeing a smash-and-grab burglary at a high-end retail store fatally struck an uninvolved driver near the heart of downtown Chicago.
According to the Illinois State Police, a group of suspects crashed a pickup truck into the Louis Vuitton store at Michigan Avenue and Walton Street just before 5 a.m. on September 12. After looting merchandise, the group fled the scene in several vehicles, abandoning the truck behind.
While fleeing, a Kia Stinger struck a Honda CR-V at the intersection of Michigan Avenue and Ohio Street. The driver of the CR-V, a man believed to be in his 40s, was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where he later died from his injuries. His name has not yet been released.
