LUBBOCK, TX (November 19, 2025) – Authorities have identified 18-year-old Irvin Cortes as the victim of a fatal accident that occurred Saturday night at a busy intersection in Lubbock.
According to the Lubbock Police Department, the incident took place around 8:21 p.m. on November 15, 2025, at the intersection of East 10th Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. A black SUV was reportedly turning left onto 10th Street when it collided with a white Jeep.
Following the collision, the occupants of both vehicles exited to exchange information. Irvin Cortes, a passenger in the SUV, was standing behind the Jeep when he was struck by a GMC Yukon driven by 29-year-old Roderick Taylor.
Cortes was transported to University Medical Center with serious injuries and was later pronounced dead. Several others were taken to Covenant Medical Center with minor to moderate injuries.
The crash remains under active investigation.
