Island Park, ID (May 7, 2025) – A horrific crash near Yellowstone National Park last Thursday evening claimed the lives of seven people and left eight others injured after a pickup truck collided with a tour van on U.S. Highway 20 near Henry’s Lake State Park.
According to Idaho State Police, the driver of a Dodge Ram pickup, identified as 25-year-old Isaih Moreno of Humble, Texas, crossed the center line and struck a Mercedes passenger van head-on. The van was transporting a group of twelve Chinese tourists, one Italian tourist, and a driver, all headed eastbound toward Yellowstone when the westbound pickup veered into their lane.
The impact caused both vehicles to catch fire. Five Chinese tourists, the Italian tourist, and the pickup driver were killed in the crash. Authorities confirmed that DNA testing will be required to officially identify some of the victims due to the severity of the fire. The eight surviving passengers from the van sustained injuries and were transported for treatment.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
