Laredo, TX (May 30, 2025) – A devastating head-on crash claimed the life of one man and left two others injured following an incident last weekend in Laredo.
According to reports, the collision took place on May 24 along Highway 359. Authorities said a Ford Mustang, driven by 19-year-old Jose Alfredo Rodriguez-Covarrubias, crossed the median and collided head-on with a Chevy pickup truck. The violent impact caused the Mustang to catch fire shortly after the crash.
Roberto Zavala, 81, who was a passenger in the pickup truck, was transported to a hospital in San Antonio but sadly passed away on Wednesday, May 28. The driver of the pickup, 61-year-old Gustavo Garcia, was taken to Doctors Hospital for treatment and has since been released. Rodriguez-Covarrubias was also hospitalized in San Antonio and has been released.
The Laredo Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.
