Jackson County, OR (November 3, 2025) – A tragic single-vehicle crash on Saturday claimed the life of 18-year-old Mitchel Frank Thorpe and another teen from the Eagle Point School District.
According to the Oregon State Police, the fatal crash happened on November 1 along the 9600 block of Highway 140, near milepost 9. Investigators said a 17-year-old boy from Eagle Point was driving a Ford F-350 pickup when it left the roadway, crashed through a guardrail, and overturned into a creek.
Mitchel Thorpe, a passenger in the truck, died at the scene along with the driver. Both teens were reportedly not wearing seatbelts.
Two additional passengers, both 17 years old, sustained life-threatening injuries and were transported to area hospitals for treatment.
Authorities believe speed and possible impairment played a role in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.
