Portage Township, PA (July 6, 2025) – A tragic motorcycle accident claimed the life of a young man early Friday morning in Portage Township, Cambria County.
According to reports, Ryan Steele, 27, of Portage Township, died in a single-vehicle crash around 1 a.m. on July 4. Cambria County Coroner Jeff Lees stated that Steele was riding his motorcycle near his home when, for reasons still under investigation, the bike left the road and struck a stop sign at the intersection of Springhill Road and Shady Springs Road.
Despite wearing a helmet, Steele suffered fatal blunt-force trauma to his head and neck and was pronounced dead at the scene. His death has been ruled accidental. First responders from Portage and Beaverdale fire departments, Forest Hills EMS, and state police from Ebensburg assisted at the crash site as authorities worked to determine what led to the motorcycle veering off the roadway.
