Ellensburg, WA (July 12, 2025) — A motorcyclist from Oregon suffered injuries after crashing off U.S. Highway 97 north of Ellensburg Friday morning.
According to reports, Washington State Patrol said the incident happened at approximately 9:15 a.m. on July 11 near Smithson Road. Authorities say 39-year-old Casey Trussell of Aumsville, Oregon, was traveling southbound on U.S. Highway 97 when he attempted to navigate a curve but veered off the roadway and crashed into a drainage ditch.
Trussell, who was wearing his helmet at the time of the crash, was treated by emergency responders and then transported to Harborview Medical Center for further care. Troopers have not determined if drugs or alcohol were contributing factors. No charges have been filed at this time as the investigation remains ongoing.
Motorists in the area were urged to use caution while crews worked to clear the scene and investigate the cause of the crash.
