Rusk, TX (August 6, 2025) — A fatal motorcycle crash near Rusk on Saturday afternoon claimed the life of a man and left a passenger injured, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

According to reports, the crash occurred around 12:30 p.m. on August 2 along Highway 69 in Cherokee County. Authorities say 51-year-old Owen O’Neill was operating a motorcycle when he lost control for reasons still under investigation.

Both O’Neill and a female passenger were ejected from the bike, landing across the inside lane and into the center median.

O’Neill died from his injuries at the scene. The passenger was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Her condition has not been publicly disclosed.

Troopers with the Texas DPS are continuing to investigate the circumstances that led to the crash.
