Johnson County, KS (August 27, 2025) – A motorcyclist was injured in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon on northbound Interstate 35 near the I-635 interchange in Johnson County.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 12:12 p.m. on August 26 near mile marker 231. Authorities reported that both vehicles were traveling north on I-35 when a 2017 Ford Explorer, driven by 62-year-old Donald Vickers of Olathe, merged into the left lane and struck a 2020 BMW F900R motorcycle.
The motorcycle, operated by 28-year-old Derrick King of Kansas City, Kansas, was hit during the lane change. King sustained suspected minor injuries and was transported to KU Medical Center for treatment. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Vickers was not injured, and both vehicles were insured. The motorcycle was removed from the scene by Allied Towing. The crash is under investigation.
