Yemassee, SC (July 24, 2025) – Two separate crashes on Interstate 95 southbound caused chaos and tragedy Tuesday afternoon in Colleton County, ultimately leaving two people dead and nine others hospitalized.
According to reports, the first crash occurred on July 22 near mile marker 41 just past Highway 21, and involved three vehicles, one of which was a commercial motor vehicle. One person was transported to the hospital following the initial wreck.
Soon after, a second, far more severe crash occurred at the same location, involving 13 vehicles — six of them commercial trucks. The collision sent nine people to local hospitals and resulted in two fatalities. Emergency crews closed the southbound lanes of I-95 for nearly 11 hours, rerouting traffic through alternate roads while crews worked the scene and cleared debris.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate both incidents.
