Tucson, AZ (October 1, 2025) – An 81-year-old woman who was struck by a car while crossing the street last week has died from her injuries, Tucson police confirmed.
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the incident occurred on September 23 at the intersection of North Riverside Drive and West Sonora Street. Martha Ballesteros Lopez was attempting to cross Riverside Drive in an unmarked crosswalk when she was hit by a white Chrysler.
The vehicle was turning left onto northbound Riverside Drive from eastbound Sonora Street at the time of the collision.
Lopez was transported to a local hospital in critical condition and later died on September 28.
The driver of the Chrysler remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Authorities have stated that impairment was not suspected.
An active investigation into the circumstances of the crash is ongoing.
