According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the incident occurred on September 23 at the intersection of North Riverside Drive and West Sonora Street. Martha Ballesteros Lopez was attempting to cross Riverside Drive in an unmarked crosswalk when she was hit by a white Chrysler.

The vehicle was turning left onto northbound Riverside Drive from eastbound Sonora Street at the time of the collision.

Lopez was transported to a local hospital in critical condition and later died on September 28.
