According to reports, the first fatal collision occurred around 10:06 p.m. on August 3 near Southeast 122nd Avenue and Southeast Ash Street. Police say a pedestrian was struck while walking in the area. Officers arrived to find the victim with critical injuries; the individual was transported to a hospital and later pronounced dead. The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
Just over an hour later, at approximately 11:20 p.m., another pedestrian was hit and fatally injured on Northwest Yeon Avenue near 44th Street—about 10 miles west of the earlier crash. The second victim was also taken to a hospital but died shortly after arrival. This stretch of NW Yeon Avenue is known for wide roadways and fast-moving industrial traffic.
According to the BikePortland Fatality Tracker, these are the 17th and 18th traffic deaths reported in Portland this year—a decrease compared to 38 fatalities by this time in 2024.
