According to reports, emergency crews responded to the scene at the intersection of West Mercury Boulevard and Big Bethel Road at approximately 12:21 a.m. on June 24 following a report of a pedestrian accident. Upon arrival, Hampton Police and Hampton Fire and Rescue personnel found a man lying in the roadway with life-threatening injuries.
The pedestrian was rushed to a local hospital but later died from his injuries.
Investigators determined the man was trying to cross the westbound lanes of West Mercury Boulevard at a location without a designated crosswalk when he was hit by a passing vehicle. The driver remained at the scene and is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation, according to authorities.
