Tampa, FL (July 20, 2025) – Two unrelated crashes left one pedestrian dead and several others seriously hurt in Tampa early Saturday morning, prompting an active investigation by the Tampa Police Department.
According to reports, the first incident occurred around 5 a.m. on July 19 in the parking lot of a Wawa convenience store near North 50th Street and East Columbus Drive. A box truck was being moved when its driver, unaware of a pedestrian nearby, fatally struck an adult male who had apparently laid down or collapsed near the truck’s rear wheels. Officers confirmed the driver showed no signs of impairment and is cooperating fully.
Earlier that same morning, around 12:40 a.m., a 2022 Can Am Ryker was involved in a separate crash near East 7th Avenue and Angel Oliva Senior Street. The three-wheeled vehicle struck two pedestrians, a man and a woman in their late 30s, who were near a marked crosswalk. After the initial impact, the Ryker collided with a parked car and then a vehicle stopped for traffic.
The Ryker’s driver, a woman in her early 40s, was seriously hurt, and her passenger, a woman in her mid-20s, also sustained injuries. All involved victims were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Police believe a possible medical event may have contributed to the second crash.
