Queens, NY (September 21, 2025) – A tragic chain-reaction crash near the Van Wyck Expressway claimed the life of a pedestrian Saturday afternoon, September 20, in the South Richmond Hill section of Queens.
According to the New York State Police, the fatal incident unfolded around 2:30 p.m. when a Mercedes Benz rear-ended a Toyota Scion that was waiting to turn onto the Van Wyck Expressway from Liberty Avenue. The force of the impact pushed the Scion forward, striking two female pedestrians nearby.
One of the victims, a 51-year-old woman, became pinned beneath the Scion and was later pronounced dead at Jamaica Hospital. The second pedestrian, a 34-year-old woman, was also transported for treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.
