According to reports, the fatal accident occurred around 11:00 p.m. on August 3 along 11th Street. Tybee Island Police and Fire crews responded to the scene, where firefighters began life-saving efforts. Emergency medical responders later confirmed that the woman had died at the scene.
Georgia State Patrol troopers, called in to lead the investigation, determined the woman had been a passenger in the vehicle. After exiting the car in front of a nearby home, she was walking toward the residence when the driver circled the block to make a U-turn. The preliminary investigation indicates the woman may have fallen into the roadway from the sidewalk and was accidentally run over as the vehicle came back down 11th Street.
