Vernon County, MO (June 24, 2025) – A pedestrian was struck and killed by a semi-truck early Sunday morning on Interstate 49 near the town of Nevada, leading to a several-hour closure of the southbound lanes.
According to reports, the incident occurred around 4 a.m. on June 22. Authorities say a 42-year-old man from Burnsville, Minnesota, was operating a 2000 Volvo VNL610 semi tractor southbound on I-49 when he struck a 24-year-old male pedestrian from Bella Vista, Arkansas, who was in the roadway.
Emergency responders from Milo Fire, Vernon County Deputies, and EMS responded to the scene. The victim was pronounced deceased on-site by Vernon County Deputy Coroner Richard Burdick.
Due to the fatal crash, I-49 southbound was shut down between mile markers 92 and 88 while the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Major Crash Investigation Unit conducted their investigation. The roadway reopened around 9:30 a.m.
