Penn Township, PA (January 5, 2025) – A tragic collision on Route 183 early Friday morning claimed the life of a two-year-old child and left both drivers hospitalized.
Pennsylvania State Police reported that the crash occurred around 5 a.m. when a GMC pickup truck traveling southbound on Rt. 183 crossed the double yellow line and struck a northbound Ford Edge. The Ford was driven by a Reading woman, who had her two-year-old daughter in the car.
Emergency responders extricated the pickup truck driver from the vehicle, and both drivers were transported to Reading Hospital with injuries. Authorities confirmed the heartbreaking death of the young child at the scene.
Bernville Road (Rt. 183) was closed between Old Church Road and Palisades Drive until approximately 11 a.m. as investigators worked to piece together the events leading to the collision.
