Hood River County, OR (October 20, 2025) – A tragic three-vehicle collision claimed the life of a motorcyclist Wednesday night on Highway 281 in Hood River County, according to state authorities.

According to the Oregon State Police, the crash happened at approximately 9:23 p.m. on October 15 near milepost 7. Investigators said 26-year-old Pedro Jonathan Flores-Flores of Hood River was driving a Subaru Impreza southbound when he attempted to pass a Toyota Corolla in a no-passing zone.

During the illegal maneuver, Flores-Flores collided head-on with a northbound Honda VT750 motorcycle driven by Phillip Mickey Himes, 37, also of Hood River. Himes was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Toyota was uninjured. Flores-Flores was arrested at the scene and now faces charges including DUII, Reckless Driving, Reckless Endangering, and Manslaughter.

Highway 281 was closed for approximately five hours as investigators processed the scene.
