Pittsburgh, PA (January 18, 2025) – A tragic crash on Interstate 376 claimed the life of 49-year-old Josh Willy, a highly regarded teacher in the Penn Hills community.

According to state police, the crash occurred Friday morning shortly before 8:30 a.m. Willy was driving his Mazda 3 hatchback outbound on the Parkway East. After exiting the Squirrel Hill Tunnel near the Commercial Street Bridge, the vehicle veered off the road, over a guardrail, and down a hillside, landing in a creek below.

Emergency crews responded to the scene, and the medical examiner arrived at approximately 11 a.m. Josh Willy was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Penn Hills School District released a heartfelt statement, remembering Willy as an exceptional teacher of AP World History and Honors Civics and a gifted program coordinator. He leaves behind his wife and three children. Counseling services will be available at Penn Hills High School on Saturday afternoon from noon to 3 p.m.

An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
