Kansas City, MO (June 27, 2025) — A Kansas City Police Department officer sustained injuries Wednesday afternoon during a crash that occurred while officers were pursuing a stolen vehicle suspect.
News sources show that the accident happened around 4:40 p.m. on June 26, as a patrol vehicle with lights activated was traveling eastbound on Westport Road. The officer was assisting in stopping a suspect when the vehicle moved into the westbound lanes to bypass traffic. While turning right onto southbound Broadway Boulevard, the police cruiser was struck by a Volkswagen Passat heading east on Westport Road.
The occupants of the Volkswagen — the driver and a front seat passenger — were not injured. The driver of the police cruiser and a police academy ride-along also escaped without harm. However, a front seat officer in the patrol car suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The officer is currently in stable condition. Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident.
