According to reports, the Kansas Highway Patrol said the incident happened at 9:13 p.m. on August 19 along eastbound US-50 near mile marker 310 in Chase County. Troopers reported that a 2014 Toyota Prius, driven by 21-year-old Jonathan Stevens of Topeka, was fleeing law enforcement when it crossed the center line and struck the power unit of a 2013 Freightliner Cascadia.
Stevens was transported to Newman Regional Hospital with suspected minor injuries. The semi-truck driver, identified as 53-year-old Kip Hildebrand of Hutchinson, was not hurt. The Toyota sustained disabling damage and was removed from the scene by Flint Hills Towing, while the Freightliner remained functional.
