According to initial reports, witnesses stated that the woman may have been attempting to run into traffic in a possible suicide attempt. She was found dead at the scene, though her identity has not been released. Police said the woman was crossing mid-block when a northbound vehicle on 43rd Avenue struck her.
The driver of the vehicle fled the scene immediately after the crash. Following the initial collision, two additional vehicles struck the victim, but both drivers remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
