Ray County, Missouri (December 28, 2024) – A tragic three-vehicle crash on Missouri Route 13, north of Route HH, claimed the life of a 62-year-old Richmond woman and left a teenage driver seriously injured on the evening of December 28. Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that a 2009 GMC Sierra, operated by a 16-year-old girl, veered into oncoming traffic, colliding head-on with a southbound 2018 Ford Explorer. A 2002 Dodge Ram following the Explorer subsequently struck its rear, further complicating the scene.

The driver of the Explorer, a 62-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at 9:50 p.m. by Ray County Coroner Bart Willim. Authorities released her body to the medical examiner for further examination. Meanwhile, the teenage driver of the Sierra was rushed to North Kansas City Hospital with serious injuries. The young driver was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The Dodge Ram driver, a 21-year-old man from Lathrop, walked away uninjured. All vehicles sustained extensive to total damage and were removed from the scene by Carmichael’s Tow.

Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop A confirmed this incident marked the 74th fatal crash of the year in their jurisdiction, with investigations ongoing. They were assisted by the Ray and Caldwell County Sheriff’s Departments in managing the crash site.

Protecting Your Rights after a Fatal Car Accident Today

Losing a loved one in a fatal car accident is a heartbreaking experience, and knowing your legal rights can help support your family’s recovery. If another driver’s negligence played a role, you may be entitled to file a wrongful death claim. This can cover medical expenses, funeral costs, and financial support lost due to the tragic event. Consulting an experienced wrongful death attorney is essential in such cases. They will handle the complex legal process, gather evidence, and negotiate with insurance companies on your behalf. Swift action is critical, as it preserves important evidence, like witness statements, police reports, and accident scene details. Although no amount of money can replace your loved one, pursuing justice through compensation can provide a degree of stability and hold those responsible accountable. Taking steps to protect your rights gives you space to focus on healing while securing your family’s future.
