Phoenix, AZ (August 7, 2025) — A chain-reaction crash involving three vehicles left two people hospitalized, one with life-threatening injuries, following a serious rollover accident in north Phoenix on Wednesday.
According to reports, the crash occurred shortly after 12:30 p.m. on August 6, 2025, in the northbound lanes of State Route 51 near 32nd Street, just north of Piestewa Peak.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety said the incident began when a vehicle experiencing engine trouble slowed down in traffic. A Ford pickup truck following behind struck the slowing vehicle, and moments later, a GMC Terrain SUV crashed into the pickup, causing the SUV to roll several times across the freeway.
One person in the overturned SUV was critically injured and is reported to be in life-threatening condition. Another individual involved in the crash also sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Emergency crews responded quickly to assist the victims and clear debris. The crash caused significant delays along SR-51 as authorities investigated and reopened affected lanes.
