Elkhart, IN (June 26, 2025) — A multi-vehicle crash involving two semi-trucks, a car, and a jeep caused major disruptions on the U.S. 20 Bypass in Elkhart County Wednesday morning, prompting a hazardous materials response and hospitalizations.

According to reports, the crash occurred just after 8:00 a.m. on June 25 in the eastbound lanes between County Road 7 and 9. A semi approaching traffic slowed for construction near the U.S. 33 exit allegedly experienced brake failure.

The semi struck a car, forcing it into a jeep, before veering off the roadway. The truck then swerved back onto the bypass and hit another semi. The violent series of impacts caused a fuel spill, requiring a HazMat crew to assist in cleanup.

The drivers of the car and the jeep both sustained injuries. One suffered head pain and lacerations, while the other reported head and neck pain. Emergency responders transported the victims to nearby hospitals.
