Chicago, IL (June 9, 2025) — A tragic accident unfolded early Sunday morning on the westbound lanes of Interstate 80 near Wentworth Avenue in the Lansing area. Just after 5:15 a.m., a BMW traveling westbound lost control and collided with a Kia Forte.

According to reports, the BMW was left disabled in a traffic lane, where it was subsequently struck by a semi-truck. Illinois State Police confirmed that the driver of the BMW was transported to a nearby hospital but was later pronounced deceased.

Authorities stated that the drivers of the Kia Forte and the semi-truck were not injured. Following the collision, all westbound lanes of Interstate 80 were closed around 8 a.m. at the Interstate 294 split, with traffic diverted to Interstate 94 northbound. The lanes reopened around 10 a.m. The crash remains under investigation.
