West Turin, NY (July 18, 2025) – A devastating three-vehicle crash involving a tractor trailer claimed two lives and injured multiple others Thursday afternoon in Lewis County, according to New York State Police.
According to reports, the incident occurred at approximately 4:11 p.m. on July 17 at the intersection of State Route 12D and State Route 26. Authorities say a 2020 Volvo tractor trailer, driven by 38-year-old Andrew M. Sommers of Three Mile Bay, was traveling south on Route 26 when a northbound 2011 Honda Pilot, operated by 39-year-old Natasha M. Spellicy of Taberg, failed to stop at the intersection and entered the truck’s path. The semi struck the driver’s side of the SUV.
Following the impact, both the Honda Pilot and the tractor trailer continued southeast. The Honda exited into a ditch, while the semi collided with a red SUV driven by 63-year-old Eric J. Croniser, also northbound on Route 26. Both vehicles came to rest off the northeast side of the roadway.
Natasha Spellicy and her 16-year-old rear passenger, Tyler Spellicy, were pronounced dead at the scene, along with the family’s three dogs. An 18-year-old front passenger, Kylie Spellicy, was airlifted to Upstate Medical University Hospital and is listed in stable condition.
Eric Croniser and his passenger, Amanda L. Croniser, 46, were taken to Wynn Hospital and are reported to be in good condition. A DRE evaluation found no signs of impairment in Mr. Sommers.
Multiple emergency agencies responded, including the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office, State Police CRU, CVEU, and local fire and EMS units. The investigation remains ongoing.
