Fleming, NY (July 17, 2025) – Five people, including a critically injured teenager and a child who was ejected, were hospitalized following a two-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon in the town of Fleming.
According to reports, the collision occurred at approximately 12:37 p.m. on July 12 at the intersection of Bluefield Road and Skillet Road. A preliminary investigation by New York State Police revealed that a 2023 Chevrolet Traverse, traveling westbound on Skillet Road, failed to stop at a posted stop sign and struck an eastbound 2013 Ford F-150.
Garrard J. Plants, 18, of Mexico, New York, was driving the Ford pickup and sustained life-threatening injuries. He remains in critical but stable condition. A 17-year-old passenger in the truck also suffered a head injury.
Inside the Chevrolet Traverse, a 5-year-old child was ejected during the impact and was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The vehicle’s driver, 37-year-old Roberto G. Vasquez Velasquez of West Winfield, and another passenger, 32-year-old Yuli G. Juarez Vasquez, were also hospitalized for further evaluation.
State Police continue to investigate the crash and the events leading up to the collision.
