Kearney, MO (October 11, 2024) – A three-vehicle collision occurred on northbound Interstate 35, just north of the 20.6-mile marker in Clay County, Missouri, around 2:04 p.m. on October 9, 2024. The Missouri State Highway Patrol, Kearney Police Department, and Clay County Sheriff’s Department were among the responding agencies.
The crash involved a 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander, a 2013 Ford Escape, and a 2016 GMC Terrain. Reports indicate that traffic had slowed due to a trooper clearing debris from the roadway. Lindsay Hoffman, 37, of Lathrop, Missouri, was driving the Mitsubishi Outlander when she switched to the left lane to avoid congestion but then quickly returned to the right lane. The GMC Terrain, operated by a 16-year-old from Kearney, collided with the Mitsubishi before striking the Ford Escape.
The GMC Terrain, which was deemed a total loss, was towed from the scene. The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, sustained minor injuries and was transported to Children’s Mercy Hospital. The Ford Escape, driven by 84-year-old Sally Jones, incurred moderate damage; however, Jones was unharmed. The Mitsubishi Outlander remained drivable, although a passenger, 38-year-old Holly Lingle, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Liberty Hospital for treatment.
