Tysons, VA (July 2, 2025) — A serious crash involving multiple vehicles shut down northbound lanes of Interstate 495 in Tysons Tuesday morning, causing major traffic delays during rush hour.
According to reports, the Fairfax County Police and Fire and Rescue Department responded just after 9:20 a.m. to the section of the Capital Beltway between Route 7 and Route 123. The collision involved a tractor-trailer, another truck, and two sedans.
Fire and rescue crews reported at least one victim trapped inside a vehicle with a head injury, with as many as five patients in total needing medical attention. Virginia Department of Transportation traffic cameras later showed limited traffic moving through the two left lanes, but the north right center lane, right lane, and right shoulder remained closed for hours as the investigation continued.
Drivers were urged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes while emergency crews cleared the wreckage and ensured the safety of everyone involved.
