Austin, TX (October 23, 2024) — The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has released further details regarding a fatal crash that occurred last week in southwest Austin.
The accident took place on October 18 at around 7:13 a.m. on State Highway 71. According to DPS, a 2024 Kia was traveling eastbound on Thomas Springs Road when it ran a red light while making a right turn onto SH-71. The Kia collided with the trailer of a truck tractor that was traveling south in the outside lane of SH-71.
The driver of the Kia, identified as Tracy Daspit of Austin, was pronounced dead at the scene. DPS reported that the driver of the truck tractor stayed on-site and fully cooperated with the investigation.
Authorities have notified Daspit’s family, and the crash remains under investigation by DPS as of Tuesday.
