Cactus, TX (August 5, 2025) — A tragic train collision in Moore County claimed the lives of three people Wednesday afternoon after a minivan was struck at a railroad crossing near Cactus.
According to reports, the crash occurred around 2:44 p.m. on July 30 near the intersection of U.S. Highway 287 and County Road E. The Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed that a train traveling northbound on tracks parallel to the highway struck an eastbound minivan that was attempting to cross.
Investigators say the minivan’s driver failed to stop for the train as required and proceeded into the path of the oncoming locomotive. The impact was fatal.
The driver and two passengers in the minivan were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities noted that all three occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. No injuries were reported aboard the train.
The incident remains under investigation by Texas DPS.
