Aurora, CO (August 5, 2025) — A collision between a freight train and a semi-truck on Monday morning caused significant road closures and damaged railway safety infrastructure in Aurora, according to local authorities.
According to reports, the crash occurred August 4 on Smith Road, just east of Sable Boulevard. Aurora Police Department responded around 11:43 a.m. and immediately shut down all lanes of Smith Road in both directions, along with northbound and southbound traffic on Sable Boulevard near the railroad tracks.
Officials confirmed that two adults were evaluated by medics at the scene, and one man was transported to the hospital as a precaution. Fortunately, no life-threatening injuries were reported. Aurora Fire Department assisted in evacuating passengers from the train safely.
The crash caused extensive damage to the crossing signals and left debris scattered on the roadways. Authorities warned that road closures would remain in effect due to the need for signal repairs and cleanup.
Drivers are urged to use alternate routes such as Chambers Road and Peoria Street while Smith Road remains closed.
